- Goal
- MaxTo installed, allowed to move windows, and waiting in the menu bar.
- Before you start
- macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
Download and install
- Open the download page and download the disk image (
.dmg). - Open the file you downloaded, and drag MaxTo into the Applications folder.
- Open MaxTo from Applications, Launchpad or Spotlight. macOS may ask you to confirm opening an app downloaded from the internet — click Open.
Allow Accessibility access
macOS only lets an app move other apps’ windows with your permission, so MaxTo asks for Accessibility access the first time it runs. The welcome tour opens with a page for picking MaxTo’s language, and asks for access a couple of pages later.
- Click Open System Settings in the macOS prompt, or Open System Settings… in MaxTo’s welcome tour.
- Under Privacy & Security → Accessibility, turn on MaxTo.
The welcome tour notices as soon as access is granted, and moves on. MaxTo only uses this access to move and resize windows. Until it’s granted, MaxTo’s shortcuts bring the macOS prompt back instead of doing anything.
You can check the status any time under Settings → General: Accessibility access reads Granted when everything’s in place.
First launch
After Accessibility, the welcome tour walks you through moving a window, switching displays (if you have more than one) and saving a preset. It takes about two minutes, and you can skip it. To see it again later, open Settings → General and click Show Welcome Tour….
MaxTo lives in the menu bar. It has no Dock icon and no main window: click its menu-bar icon for the menu, and choose Settings… to configure it. Opening MaxTo again from Applications or Spotlight while it’s running also opens Settings.
You’re ready to snap your first window.
