Customize your hotkeys

Pick the shortcuts that fit your fingers. There are two — one opens the resize overlay, one opens settings.

The two hotkeys

MaxTo registers two global keyboard shortcuts:

  • Resize. Opens the resize overlay over the focused window. Default: Win + Alt + Space.
  • Settings. Opens the Settings window. No default — set one if you’d like one.

Change either under Settings → Shortcuts.

Pick a combination Windows isn’t already using

If the combination you choose is already claimed by Windows or by another application, MaxTo can’t grab it. The hotkey will silently do nothing when you press it.

You can verify by opening the log file (see Troubleshooting and logs) and looking for a line that says Failed to register hotkey. The fix is to pick a different combination.

Combinations that usually work Anything starting with Win + Alt tends to be free. Combinations of Ctrl + Shift + a letter are often claimed by browsers and IDEs.

What happens when the trial expires

If you’re in the trial period and it lapses (or you don’t yet have a license), pressing the resize shortcut opens the License page in Settings instead of the resize overlay. Activate a key from there to restore the normal behaviour. The Settings shortcut keeps working regardless.
