Use MaxTo with multiple monitors

MaxTo follows the focused window. Each display can have its own grid, or you can share one configuration across all monitors.

How multi-monitor works

When you press the resize shortcut, the overlay opens on the display that holds the focused window. That’s the only window MaxTo touches — your other monitors are unaffected.

Each display has its own grid, margins, and saved presets. You can tune every monitor independently, or share configuration across all of them.

Share modes

Open Settings → Displays and look for Share by. There are three options:

• Always. One configuration applies to every monitor. Pick this if you want consistent behaviour everywhere and don’t care which physical screen you’re on.
• Resolution. Monitors with the same width × height share a configuration. Useful for docking-station setups where you swap between identical externals — plug in a different but identically-sized monitor and it picks up the same grid automatically.
• Serial number. Each physical monitor gets its own configuration, identified by its serial number. Useful for permanent multi-monitor setups with mixed hardware: a small portrait sidekick gets a tall grid; the main 4K gets a wider one.

If you’re not sure which to pick, Resolution (the default) covers most cases.

Presets that follow you

If you press a preset key on a display that doesn’t have it but another display does, MaxTo switches the overlay to that other display and applies the preset there. So a preset doesn’t have to be re-saved on every monitor — bind it once on whichever monitor you saved it on, and it remains reachable.
