Make the grid match your monitor
Pick the number of rows and columns that fits the windows you actually run.
Why change it?
The default grid is four rows by seven columns. That’s a sensible starting point for a 16:9 monitor — coarse halves and quarters land on integer cell boundaries, and you have enough granularity for thirds. If your monitor is ultrawide, very small, or vertically oriented, a different grid will fit your windows better.
Open the Displays page
- Open Settings → Displays.
- Pick the display you want to configure from the list.
- Adjust the Rows and Columns controls.
The change applies the next time you open the resize overlay on that display.
Why won’t it go higher?
MaxTo caps the maximum rows and columns based on two things: the display’s aspect ratio and a minimum cell size. A 1920 × 1080 monitor, for example, can’t have hundreds of columns — each cell would be too small to be useful. The maximum value updates as you change the other axis.
